We adopted Barley and his cuddlelicious bro Coconut on Saturday, March 27th from a lovely family who's mom discovered she was terribly allergic to them. She had a rabbit as a child and wanted to share the same wonderful experience with her daughters. After sticking it out for a year, they ultimately decided to bring them to a place where they would be well cared for and loved on every day.
After giving Barley a few hours to settle in, our owner checked on him, found him shivering in the deepest corner of his box while rolled on his side. Uh oh, this was a sure sign of GI stasis, which can quickly be fatal to rabbits. She rushed him to the emergency veterinary hospital at midnight for x-rays and a battery of tests where he ended up being a patient for 4 long nights.
On March 31st, Barley returned to his brother and his new home as bouncy and affectionate as ever! All is well that ends well, with the exception of the unexpected $3,000 veterinary bill.
As a small, woman-owned, startup business impacted by Covid, this has hit us particularly hard. If you would consider contributing any amount to help defray some of the impact of Barley's bill, we would GREATLY appreciate the assistance.
