Well friends, I did not want to find myself back here only three short months from the original car accident. With help we raised enough funds to get an emergency car after our Jeep was destroyed by an impaired driver in the middle of night and while parked outside our house.
The last couple of months have been really difficult. We've limped along as best we could and kept our spirits high. But after last night, I'm feeling pretty broken. We've been trying our best on our own and with our mechanic helping as best as they could.
Unfortunately, the car we picked up from a used car lot has become a nightmare. It's a 2010 Dodge Journey. It worked well for the first month with a couple of electrical issues. We called our mechanic and got those fixed. The check engine light went away. We thought we were good.
However, more and more issues kept coming up. The transmission started leaking. The starter failed. And finally the car lost power while we were on the freeway. We've dubbed this car as haunted. It will randomly have catastrophic issues (we've already had it die on us twice) and then suddenly will be fine. It's scary and our budget has been taking a hit to try and patch these issues. Our mechanic has advised that we get rid of this car. Especially, because racking up towing bills is out of the question.
Here's the thing. We only need a vehicle until the end of October. After that, we will be setting off on a new adventure to Athens, Greece. It does not make sense to keep pouring money into a car that we won't be keeping. And I really need those funds to support our move.
We put everything we had into getting this car with the last campaign and the savings we had left. We don't need a new car, just one that will be reliable until the end of October. We can't even get a decent quote to sell this car. So my only option is to help raise funds for a monthly rental.
We need the car for three reasons. First, for me to get to work. Second is because we meet up with my ex to get our kid in Woodburn on the weekends. A 30 to 45min journey each way. And third, we are emptying out our house for the big move. We need a vehicle to take donations to charities and trash to the dump.
So, here we are. I'm back to ask for your help again. I'm doing my best to take care of my family, but this nightmare needs to end. I can't keep worrying about whether or not we'll get stuck on 205 again with traffic rushing past us when we're trying to get our kid home. This campaign will help us get a rental car to take us through these last few months. Give us peace of mind. And help me not feel so crazy. Seriously, this car has been messing with my mental health.
Thank you for everything. If you can donate, share, offer encouraging words and/or hugs, I will be forever grateful!
How funds will be spent: Roughly $900 a month is the cost to rent a car on the cheap end.
