BARK IN THE PARK: Westin's Take Action Project

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Westin and I am in Grade 6. In class, were asked to pick a cause we are passionate about for our Take Action Project and I chose to help animals in need.

My mission is to raise money to help support animals at the Calgary Humane Society. I would like to raise $1,000.00 for the foundation so I can support the animals there.

Why I'm Passionate About This Cause:

I really care about animals and would like to raise awareness about the increasing numbers of animals in shelters and their stories. When I am older, my goal is to become a Veterinarian and help animals in need. If there is anything I can do to help, I am going to do it. This cause was easy to choose because of an experience close to my heart.

In 2020 my mom decided to board a dog once, named Wesley. He is a Corgi and his mom, Georgia, told us his story. Before Georgia adopted Wesley, his previous owner took him to the vet one day, with a broken leg. The break was very serious and required surgery. Wesley was just a puppy when this injury happened. When the vet asked how the injury happened, the owner gave three different stories. One story was that the owner had rolled over onto Wesley resulting in the break, another was that Wesley broke his leg while playing. The third story was that Wesley fell off the bed. Due to the inconsistencies in the owner's reasoning behind the injury, the veterinarian decided to contact authorities due to suspected animal abuse and Wesley ended up at the Calgary Humane Society; where Georgia worked. The owner tried multiple times to adopt Wesley back, but due to them not being allowed to own animals anymore, they were unsuccessful. When Wesley was healed and as good as new, Georgia took him home and has a sister name Spohie (she is also a Corgi).

Since 2020, my mom has watched Wesley multiple times and he and I visit sometimes; we are now best friends.

I want to do everything I possibly can to make sure that no animal goes through traumatic events; much like Wesley did. I want all animals to be able to live their happiest lives and have all the enrichment that they deserve.
