Every year, thousands of animals are abandoned, neglected, or left with nowhere to go — and sadly, many never get the second chance they deserve. That’s why places like Babworth Animal Rescue Kennels (B.A.R.K) are so important.

B.A.R.K is a small, family-run rescue based right here in Retford, dedicated to taking in stray, unwanted, and abandoned dogs and cats, and giving them a safe place to recover, rebuild, and hopefully find a loving home.

What makes this rescue even more special is that they don’t give up on animals others might turn away. They take in “pound dogs” that would otherwise be put to sleep, as well as animals rescued from neglect and abuse — even from overseas where conditions can be unimaginable.

They operate as a non-profit, relying entirely on donations and fundraising just to keep going. Every single penny raised goes directly towards feeding the animals, paying for vital vet care, maintaining the kennels, and giving these animals the time they need to find the right home — no matter how long that takes.

This year, a group of us have made it our mission to give something back.

We’ve committed to taking on fundraising challenges throughout the year, pushing ourselves each quarter to support causes that truly matter. For our second challenge, we’re stepping it up — taking on a 46-mile bike ride on the 30th May 2026 to raise money for B.A.R.K.

This isn’t just about the distance. It’s about what that distance represents.

Every mile we ride is for the dogs who have been abandoned.

For the cats who have been left behind.

For the animals who have known nothing but fear — until someone at B.A.R.K gave them a chance.

B.A.R.K survives because of people who care. People who donate, volunteer, and go out of their way to make sure these animals aren’t forgotten.
