Barbie's Battle

In August of this year Barb was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. She hadn't been feeling her normal self and after meeting with several doctors finally found one who located the cancer and told her how urgent the treatment for this was.
She is a 64 year old mother of three boys and grandmother of 9. For the last 40+ years she has given her life and her time to serving the loved ones of others. She has dedicated her life to caring for people who live in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living homes. Barb serves them with love and respect and not only has tried to make their days there wonderful but has treated so many of them as her family and her personal responsibility.
Up until August she was still doing her job six days a week and running non stop, as she always does, to make sure the kitchen of her current workplace is neat, clean, and that her residents are served quality food with love and care. She has raised three son's and taught them to care for others and to be of service as all three are veteran's of the U.S. ARMY and one still currently serves. Her two other sons have moved on from the ARMY  and are police officers in a metropolitan community in Minnesota.  Barb has continuously been there for other people, served in a selfless, loving way and has shared her passion not only through her work but through the selfless and loving values she has passed on to her family.
She is currently undergoing the first rounds of chemo and radiation and has almost completed these initial stages of treatment. What she needs is some help and some love with personal donations. She lives on her own in an apartment and would like to continue to do that as long as it is possible. She drives herself to radiation in a vehicle that she cannot rely on and could really use help getting a new one. She is also incurring medical bills that she needs some help paying. She is currently unable to go back to work otherwise she would already be there organizing the freezer, inspecting the kitchen and sitting with the residents sharing a loving laugh or a smile.
When I talked with her about making this she told me she felt weird and did not like asking people for help. I told her not to worry and that instead I would ask for her. She has given to St. Jude for years because as she put it, she hates seeing the kid's who have done nothing and have their whole lives ahead of them diagnosed with such a terrible disease.
Today, as a family, we are asking for your help for a woman who has always willingly given hers and asked for nothing in return. Help her pay her bills, get a car she can trust, stay in the fight and maybe even get the chance to take a trip outside of the U.S., which is something she has never done.
