GO TEAM BARBER!!
This is a battle cry that us Barbers 3 shout on a regular basis. Whether packed in the car looking forward to a long road trip, or when faced with one of life's road blocks.... It's GO TEAM BARBER!
Us Barbers really do our best to roll with the punches as they come. Like it is for so many of us, the punches have seemed to come one on top of the other (on top of the other on top of the other on top of the other...). We know we are not alone in this. Some have it better and some have it far worse.
However, here we are. Looking to our friends, family, and all our loved ones... and sharing our words.
Soooo I guess we're supposed to write a sob story here...
This is a bit of a stream of consciousness.
The bullet points:
+ A few months ago the head gasket on our 2004 Hyundai Elantra blew... costs more than the car value. Goodbye car #1.
"Ok, we can make one car work for now. Plenty of families get by with one car. Let's just coordinate schedules and see how it goes."
+ Last night, Scott got in an accident while driving our 2007 VW Rabbit. He's ok, just a jammed thumb and sore wrist, but it's looking like the suspension is toast.
While Silas slept, Charis and Scott shared a little glass of whisky and commiserated. As difficult as it was to get by with one car, getting by with zero cars is going to be downright impossible.
Today we look onward, as we try to figure out what our next steps are. We shout GO TEAM BARBER and push forward.
Here's some Team Barber tidbits...
After dating for 1.5 years, we were engaged and another year later we wed! We've been married for 6.5 years!

We have one true blessing. Our little boy Silas Kane Barber. After giving us a good scare and spending the first three weeks of his life at the NICCU at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, he was released with a clean bill of health.

Silas just turned three on February 12 and is healthy, happy, funny, and kooky, just like his folks.

2016 was a bit of a rough year for us for various reasons. Chief among them, our finances saw a breakdown. Scott spent the whole year looking for a job, endless resume submissions and some really great interviews that turned up fruitless seemed to be an ongoing theme. Still, we stay at it. Though Scott has had three very good interviews since Christmas 2016 leading into 2017, and though the fruitless theme continues, we persist.
When Scott's six year old eyeglasses flung off his face and the frames snapped, apply tape and persist. Or wear Charis' weaker prescription contacts and persist.
When one car is rendered undrivable and not worth fixing, let's make it work to coordinate driving a single car and persist. (We were happily surprised when various dear friends let us borrow their car for a day here or there, even for a week. So grateful!)
After taking such good care of our son's teeth, when the pediatric dentist recently told us that he needs $1050 worth of work done, we put our heads together, exploring our options, and try to persist.
When our second car seems to be rendered undrivable now too, we look to the generosity of our community, our allies, our friends and family we love so dearly... and we look to persist.
Despite all the hardships, our goal is to stay united as a family unit. Our little joy boy keeps us laughing and focused on pushing forward.
$5,000 is a bit of an arbitrary figure, but should be enough to get us an old but reliable vehicle. Really, anything helps and we will forever be grateful!
Whew, thanks for your generosity of time. That was a lot to read through.

Please feel free to share our story, should you feel moved to.
GO TEAM BARBER!!! Us Barbers 3 love you all.
