Barber Apprenticeship: My COVID-19 Reinvention
At this stage in my life I would never have thought that I would be faced with the need to reinvent myself.... but due to Covid19, here I am! As you may or may not know, last March I had been displaced from my most recent employer, where I was an office manager in the trade show industry.
So what to do?
Pull up my bootstraps and FINALLY realize my long-time desire of becoming a
Professional Licensed Barber
As of January 24, 2021, I was fortunate to have been accepted as a Barber Apprentice by a talented Barber Teacher of a local barbershop.
I have already begun putting in the work and dedication required to be the best barber I can be, building a fresh foundation to a successful, exciting, new career path.
That is what brings me here... The Pennsylvania Apprenticeship Program process is a non-paid commitment of 1,250 hours of instruction completed in no less than nine months. The process also consists of many out-of-pocket expenditures:
Textbooks ($150.00) & Workbooks. ($50.00)
Additional learning materials
Professional Clippers ($150.00)
Electric Trimmers ($100.00)
Cutting Shears ($100.00)
Straight Razors ($100.00)
Practice Manikin Heads ($125.00)
& many more professional “tools of the trade”
Application fees ($10.00)
PA State Background Check ($22.00)
Pennsylvania State Practical ($77.00) & Theory Licensing testing exam fees ($63.00)
etc...
You guessed it... it all adds up very quickly especially when one is unemployed.
Be assured I am approaching this endeavor with a serious, positive and energetic mind towards my end goals of becoming a licensed Pennsylvania Barber.... You know?... sometimes in life when a “calling” keeps knocking at your door you eventually need to answer the door no matter how daunting!
Thank you in advance for any level of support you may be able to provide in helping me to achieve my barber career goals.
ADDITIONAL REQUEST: I am in need of willing clients to meet my apprenticeship weekly “cut” requirements. How? Contact me directly set up an appointment.
I appreciate you all!
