Hello-
My Name is Carolyn Hamm. I am writing to share a recent tragic experience that happened to my sister, Barbara Bizzelle:
On Monday September 15, she and I left for our annual vacation to Ocean City, MD. On the way there, Barbara mentioned that she had an unusual type of headache. It seemed to subside somewhat once we arrived at the beach however it returned with a vengeance on Wednesday evening. By Friday morning, she was so ill that she asked for an ambulance to take her to the local hospital because of continued excruciating pain.
Once we arrived, due to the nature of the symptoms, a CT scan was ordered immediately followed by an MRI. The results revealed a significant brain tumor in the cerebellum area needing surgery as soon as possible. She was then transported a second time by ambulance to the local hospital near our home for surgery. This was a two hour ride.
An eight hour crainectomy was performed on September 25, 2025 which, I am relieved to say, was successful and the tumor was benign. A small portion was unable to be removed and will require radiation treatments to eliminate the remainder of the tumor.
My sister now has a long road of recovery ahead including regular MRI follow ups to assure that there is no new growth of the tumor.
The resulting financial impact is
due to out of pocket expenses such as co- pays and deductibles, ambulance transportation and my loss of income as I have taken a leave from my job to become her primary caregiver.
In addition, our hope is to raise enough funds to install a walk-in shower to allow her the independence of bathing herself.
Both my sister and I are seniors living on fixed incomes.
Those who know my sister recognize her to be a kind, generous and God fearing woman and we hope that she will continue to progress in her recovery.
Your thoughtful donations will be greatly appreciated.
