This fundraiser has been created by Barbara’s family to support her as she faces one of the most difficult battles of her life. Just two years ago, Barbara bravely fought and overcame breast cancer. Now, in a heartbreaking turn of events, she has been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer that has spread to several area in her bones. She is positive for HER2-.

This diagnosis came as a shock to all of us. When it spreads to the bone, it is a painful and complicated condition that requires rapid and ongoing aggressive treatment.

Barbara is currently in the early stages of care. She has already undergone extensive testing, including body scans, bone scans, MRIs, and lab work. She will need radiation and internal therapies, which may include chemotherapy combinations and medications. Her treatment is being handled by specialists at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Smilow Cancer Center, however, due to the nature of her case and the originality, we are seeking a second opinion on her care at Massachusetts General Hospital. Mass General is one of the on 4 hospitals in the US that provides a particular type of radiation. This is called proton beam radiation. It s a specialized targeted type of radiation that directly impacts the affected area while saving the good cells around it. It is also a heavily concentrated dose of radiation that is preferred for individuals that have cancer in sensitive areas like the head and spine. In which Barbara does have.

While HER2- is a very aggressive cancer is treatable, it does respond well to therapies. So we have high hopes!

We’re asking for your help to ease the financial burden this illness is placing on Barbara. Donations will go toward essential expenses such as:

Hospital parking fees / traveling expenses

Meals and groceries

Day-to-day living expenses during treatment

medical costs not covered under insurance

Every dollar raised will go directly to Barbara to help her focus on what matters most—her health and healing. We are also hoping to organize an in-person fundraiser in the near future or a possible wish list (these are TBD.)
