Barbara Mixon's Cancer Fund

Hello friends and family,

There’s no right way to do this… So it is with a heavy heart that I must inform you, my mother Barbara Mixon has been diagnosed with Grade IV (glioblastoma) Brain Cancer. Our family was flipped upside down when we were informed of the CAT scan results Christmas morning.

A biopsy two weeks ago revealed the cancer is terminal. Our only option is to “slow it down” with chemotherapy, which she started earlier today. For the next five weeks my mother will be doing chemotherapy five days a week. We are looking for assistance in helping my mother get to all of her appointments to help ease her illness.

If you know Barbara personally, it goes without saying, she’s one tough lady. That being said, she’s never been a victim and that will never change. My mother is 54 years young and will be 55 in March. She is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met and cares deeply for her friends and family. She has made her living bringing people into this world, and she is damn good at it. But, due to the progression of this illness, she will no longer be able to work and will lose her health insurance through Kaiser Permanente. Thankfully, she will be able to get onto my father’s health insurance as long as my father continues to work. Our family is stuck between a rock and a hard place; we are struggling to compensate for the loss of income and finding it difficult to sacrifice some much needed family time to accomplish this. Our family is going through the roughest times we have ever seen and we’re in desperate need of assistance both emotionally and financially. We are forever grateful for all the support we have received so far through these difficult times.

Any well wishes, thoughts, and prayers are much appreciated. I will be continuing to update my mother’s status on this page. If you would like to reach out to my mother please email me, so I could let you know her schedule, and how she is feeling. Again I want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you,

The Mixon family
