Darlene Cross, a beautiful soul

I'm referring to my very first Go Fund Me campaign as
"ADOPT A GRANDMA"

Only a week ago I stumbled upon this darling 92 year old lady grieving over the loss of her only daughter, Barbara, 69,  a week before Thanksgiving.
Darlene's daughter passed away suddenly the day before her birthday and she actually buried her daughter the day after her 92nd birthday.

After hearing her story I was compelled to start a campaign to help this beautiful lady who had captured my heart completely by accident.
You could say I was in the right place at the right time.

Darlene reminded me of my 92 year old Grandmother (my best friend) that I lost 6 years ago.
Her age, appearance, her likeness in character, her posture,  the way she talked, in so many ways had me at 50 years old tearing up like a small child and falling in love with the memory of my Grandmother.

I'm convinced, it was by no accident that I met Darlene that day. I'm sure my Grandmother and God had something to do with it.
I invited her to coffee the next morning and offered to buy her breakfast as I wanted to know more about her story. I had this deep NEED to help her. I can't explain it. It was much greater than the two of us.

Her eyes "lit up" when I offered to help, and she couldnt thank me enough.
I told her she was helping ME much more than I was helping HER.
Every year I look for more ways to GIVE my time at Christmastime as it was my Grandmother's favorite time of the year.  
Over an order of Strawberry Blintzes and coffee, I sat back and listened to Darlene's story about her daughter's life and her love of the Lord.
I felt like a little girl...totally mesmerized by her story.

It was like what we all ask for...what we all long for...
ONE MORE VISIT WITH THAT SPECIAL LOVED ONE THAT HAS GONE ON THEIR NEXT ADVENTURE INTO the HEAVENS while we have been left behind.
 
Here's her story:
Darlene was widowed 22 years ago. 
Her husband had also suffered from Brain Cancer and after 4 Brain surgeries, she cared for him for over 25 years until his passing.
So basically Darlene has been paying medical bills her ENTIRE life.
I asked if if she remarried or fell in love again.
With a smile on her face and memories shining thru her eyes, slight tears, she replied,
"No, he was the love of my life..." Enough said. I share the same feelings for the wonderful man in my life that I'm blessed to share this thing we call LIFE.

I learned that Darlene's daughter, Barbara, at 6 years old was stricken with Brain Cancer.
She had Brain Surgery at the age of 6 and again at age 12, losing her vision at the young age of 6,
she became legally blind.
She said sadly her daughter was never blessed with good health.

Basically Darlene has worked her whole life, AND CONTINUES TO WORK 3 DAYS A WEEK, DRIVING 2 HOURS roundtrip on the freeway  CLEANING HOUSES.  She's 92.  
She's a ROLE MODEL in my eyes.

It's a sad but beautiful story of a strong, kind, helpful, grateful and thankful woman that adored her daughter and never thought her daughter would be taken before she herself passed. She misses her dearly.

Like I said, a week ago Darlene was a stranger, now she brings a smile to my face and a fire in my heart.
I'm blessed. The least I could do is help her.

For me she is the best present I could get this Christmas.
She's alot like having my Grandmother back.

I will start this campaign by pledging (one dollar) for every year Darlene has made people smile.
That's 92 years.
That's the least I can do.

All donations will be used to assist with the sudden funeral costs of over $15,000.00 and any extra going towards the $35,000.00 in final medical costs for Barbara.

No parents should suffer the loss of a child and no parent should have to have the burden of worrying about finances while grieving such a tragic loss.

Especially if you're in your GOLDEN years of 92 years young.
My heart goes out to Darlene and her entire family that loved Barbara so much.

That shows we respect her 92 years and I pray we all are fortunate enough to celebrate our 92nd Birthday too!
