Barbara Baker currently resides in Puebla, Mexico as a missionary with Camino Global, along with her husband Jonathan and two kids, Josiah and Abigail. Barbara works with the women from their church and serves as a Storyteller of the Gospel.
In 2010, she was diagnosed with Familial Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis – a disease that affects 1 in 200,000 people. Decimal changes in blood potassium levels cause Barbara varying levels of paralysis and/or weakness prohibiting her from leaving her bed some days. Over the years, Barbara’s ability to walk distances declines along with her overall muscle strength. In 2015, Barbara began the process of investigating a secondary diagnosis: Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which explains the remaining symptoms not covered with the Periodic Paralysis diagnosis. She takes yearly trips to the United States to see experts in both diagnosis and to receive prescriptions that she cannot get in Mexico.
We ask that you pray for God’s supernatural healing, wisdom and guidance with next steps in studies, treatment and adaptation. Along with your prayers, we ask for your financial support to assist with her travel and medical expenses to help alleviate some of the stress this has put on their family. We encourage you to seek God in this decision and hope that you are able to donate as much or as little as you can to this cause, so that Barbara may continue to tell her story and share God's redemptive story of hope around the world.
