Help Barbara Schwebbach during this time of great loss

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Erin - A friend of Barbs. I’m reaching out asking for help in raising funds for Barb (and her family) as she mourns the sudden loss of her husband (and the boys Dad), Glen Schwebbach. Donated funds will help Barb cover the costs incurred while caring for Glen during his Cancer treatments. These funds will also support Barb now as she grieves his loss and makes further arrangements. Please donate and support Barb and her family during this most difficult time.

Glen and Barb Schwebbach spent 24 years building a home and family together with their two sons with special needs, Steven and Braden, and Barb’s eldest son Matt.
On April 21, 2024 the family suffered a heartbreaking loss; Barb lost her soulmate and the boys lost their dad when Glen died due to complications from chemotherapy for metastatic cancer. Along with the emotional impact of the loss, Glen’s death meant that both his long term disability payments and Barb’s compassionate care EI benefits both ended immediately leaving the family with no income while they try to navigate their grief.

Glen’s journey with cancer began in early 2019. In Feb 2024, after 5 years free
from cancer, Glen was diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer. After investigating all the options Glen and Barb decided to forgo a catastrophic surgery, instead choosing palliative chemotherapy/immunotherapy to try and preserve the quality of whatever time remained. Glen had scans every
three months and for a year there was no change to the cancer and so they were able to share qualtiy time as a couple and family, building memories.
They “lived their best life” with Barb and Glen even taking one final trip to their
favourite place on earth, Maui. However, in Feb 2025 the latest scan revealed the cancer had spread to his lungs and lymph nodes. He began treatment in late March and was hopeful that this would buy some time. Two weeks later he began to have complications and two weeks later he ended up in hospital. He was stabilized and on April 21 he was preparing to return home
the next day. Unfortunately that night his condition changed suddenly and
Barb rushed to be with him, holding him as he died due to treatment complications.

Glen was someone who always gave back. He worked as a caregiver with
special needs adults, many who were nonverbal. He had the ability to empathize and understand his clients, in spite of their difficulties communicating. He was regularly seen with his clients in the community, supprting them in an inclusive life. He always wanted them to “live their best life”. When Glen met Barb, she was raising two special needs sons. Glen stepped in, and stepped up, becoming an amazing father to both.

In every facet of his life whether at home, at work, or during his fond years of coaching Special Olympics, Glen found great joy in being able to mentor and inspire people to become their best selves.

Please donate and help support Barb and her family while they grieve and mourn this great loss of husband and father.
