On Friday, July 15, my mom was hit by a car and left in critical condition. She is in the neuroICU at Cedars-Sinai, one of the best hospitals in the world, and the future for her is unknown. The doctors have informed me that even in the best case scenario, there will be a long road ahead...potentially over 18 months.

Her long-term abilities and functionality are uncertain. It is very possible that she could be back to normal but her brain may get overstimulated too easily, stopping her from focusing and working for extended periods at a time. I would like to provide a cushion for her in case she needs more help down the road, and to help out getting back to normal in the meantime.

There is a long path ahead, and I am heartbroken that my mom will have to go through this. We were scheduled to vacation in NYC in September. My mom loves to travel and there is one thing she has always wanted, to travel the world with me. I want to be able to provide this for her. When she wakes up, I want to tell her that I am still taking her on this trip.  This will be VITAL to the therapy process, giving her something to work towards and look forward to. There is nothing more in the world that she would want. Let's make it happen for her.

Also,

Senile drivers are a major issue in this country, and it needs to be addressed. This is bigger than just my mom. Many people’s lives are affected by drivers that are too old and cannot function properly enough to operate a vehicle. We all know someone who should not be driving. My own grandmother had a license long after she was diagnosed with dementia. She never actually drove, thank god, but it became somewhat of a running joke in the family. The fact that the state legally allowed her to drive is a serious concern. I am not promising to dramatically change the world via this gofundme effort, which has a focus on the issues I stated above,  but with your help I will do what I can to bring this issue to the forefront. With meaningful discussion, I believe changes and regulations can be made to prevent some cases like my mom’s. Help my mom and me heal, and I will be working for years to come on this issue.

I will be posting updates at the link below.
