Hello, my name is Tom Schlindwein and I want to start a campaign to help my sister, Barbara continue her life's journey from retirement at home to assisted living at a facility in Erie, PA.
As a single woman she has spent her life in service to others. While working for the Peace Corp she helped volunteers as she supported them while they were on assignment in South America. As her cousins, nieces, and nephews grew up she made time to take them to amusement parks, vacations, etc. - anything they could enjoy together and make life-long memories. Barb has always been eager to volunteer in her church, both in the DC area and Erie, by driving members to church when they couldn't themselves, visiting them at home, or even cleaning the church and purchasing supplies. She has supported a family in WY for many years both financially and with her supportive words. The last few years Barb has spent caring for our ill sister Nancy, up to the time that she passed away about a year ago.
Barb had open heart surgery about twelve years ago. She had a massive heart attack this past December and a mild heart attack in June. Barb spent many weeks in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities after these incidents. In the past three months she has fallen twice sending her to the ER and then, after those falls, again back to rehab. It's now been decided as a result of the falls that Barb needs more extensive support and personal attention than she can get at home. She will be moving into an assisted living facility this August in the Erie area.
Throughout Barb's life and career of giving and taking care of others, she many times forgot about taking care of herself, both physically and monetarily. Now she has very limited funds to support these later years. This campaign is an effort to raise $20,000 to help Barb have the money to be able to make the transition from independence at home to assisted living in a facility. Please give if you are able to support a selfless woman who has spent her life loving and caring for those around her.
