Barb Fightmaster Medical Care

Barb Fightmaster went into the ER on Tuesday, April 24th with extreme abdominal pain. After being examined, she was sent home with antibiotics for an infection. The next day, her left leg turned red, hard and swollen causing concern and a trip back to the ER. She was admitted that night. Doctors were unsure of exactly the issue and ran an ultrasound on late Thursday afternoon. They immediately found an extreme blood clot (DVT) from her left pelvic area to her calf. On Friday morning, they performed a Surgical Thrombectomy to remove the blood clot. Due to a severe complication during the surgery, she suffered a Spinal Epidural Hematoma (bleeding around the Spinal Cord) that caused immediate paralysis of her legs. She endured an emergency surgery to remove the bleed and release the pressure on her spinal cord. A few days after her surgery, a blot clot formed in her lungs, causing more concern and medical attention. They put an IVC filter (mesh net) in her chest to prevent any more blood clots from forming. For two weeks, the doctors monitored Barb’s spinal bleed as well as the blood thinner medicine to reduce her blood clot and prevent anymore from forming.
 
On May 10th, Barb moved to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE. The staff is wonderful and you can see they truly care about her and her progress. She had a test to determine her level of paralysis and it is currently from the rib cage and down. She is working with PT and OT to master her life skills and become independent.
 
The family is asking for prayers that she accomplish and progress in the 30 days that insurance has allowed, trusting in God's plan. Let’s pray for His healing hand to work in miraculous ways, peace for Barb and Family, and comfort through this difficult time.
 
Many have asked what they can do to help and raising money for medical equipment, home and vehicle alterations, and medical bills to ensure Barb is enabled to live the life she was before this tragic event will help take some of the financial burden off of Barb and her family.
