Barb and Dean Kolb

Donation protected
My nephew Dean and his wife Barb have had a terribly challenging year and it's time to step in and help them out.
,
In the first few months of 2018, Barb found herself without a job and cancer diagnosis, invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast and  BRCA2+, which puts her in a genetically high risk for for both breast and ovarian cancers.

Barb's first of five chemo treatments was in April of 2018.  A sixth treatment was cancelled because Barb's body simply could not take the effects of the Taxotere, Carboplatin, Herceptin, and Perjeta (TCHP) chemo.  Since her first chemo treatment, Barb was hospitalized six times before her bilateral mastectomy on September 7th.  At that time it was discovered that there was cancer in one lymph node as well as precancerous cells in the right breast.  Barb has been in the hospital since her surgery in September with severe stomach pain and a low hemoglobin level and was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer.  Currently, Barb is going for herceptin treatments every three weeks, the cancer center 2-3 times per week for IV magnesium,  will be meeting with a kidney doctor as lab tests are concerning her physicians, and started radiation treatment last week.  After six weeks of radiation treatment, Barb will have surgery again in an attempt to avoid ovarian cancer early in 2019.

When Barb became sick, Dean was right there taking care of her and that has taken a toll on his own ongoing health issues.  Dean has a long history of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachyardia Syndrome.)   POTS causes Dean to suffer from migraines, orthostatic dizziness, temperature sensitivity, blurred vision, chest pain, join and body aches, insomnia, fatigue, and brain fog.  His own health recently kept him from work and a paycheck for four of six weeks.

Dean and Barb have tried their best to keep everything going financially, but they are really struggling.  Going from two incomes to one has landed them behind in their mortgage and causes them to worry about having to sell their house.   They are currently behind a staggering amount of $10,717.00.  For just Dean and Barb to recover financially is overwhelming, but I am hopeful their family and friends can help them through this difficult time.
