A Story of Pamela

We opened the doors of Pamela in 2020 with a handful of dreams and a single, burning goal: to build a true queer living room in Amsterdam, a safe space and a vibe, not just a bar. A place where you could walk in alone and leave with community. Where you could be fully, unapologetically yourself. In a city as diverse as ours, we quickly learned how desperately this safe space was needed, Pamela didn't just become a bar; it became a home.

For last 5.5 beautiful years, we’ve watched you gather here. We’ve hosted your first dates, your community meetings, your messy nights, and your moments of triumph. This space, built for and by the queer community, is where our hearts live.

Fighting the Unpredictable Storms…

We have to be honest with you: from the start, we faced a relentless storm. We opened just two months before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down. Then, as we fought to recover, we found ourselves in legal struggles for existence due to unwelcomeness in the neighborhood, which turned out to be not ready for our vibrant existence.

Every last bit of energy, determination, personal and financial resources were poured into keeping the doors open. We fought the lockdowns, the unexpected costs, and the piling debt. But after years of constant battle, we have reached a heartbreaking tipping point.

The debt and immediate structural needs are now forcing Pamela’s potential closure. And that's why Bar's founding mother and owner, Lola has made an uneasy decision to turn to you, our community, for support. We refuse to let the story end here, but we need your help.
