A STORY OF HOPE AND HEALING:
This story begins 10 years ago.
It's 2014 and Gia is in her prime at 33 years old and ready to take on the world.
I have a vivid memory of her coming home from work one day; excitement streaming from every pore.
Working in the medical field with a team of specialists and about to begin nursing school Gia was alive with the possibilities that lay ahead.
Then, suddenly, it all began. Or should I say it all ended.
The fevers and debilitating fatigue and many more symptoms that left Gia unable to get out of bed most days, and feeling like her dreams were
starting to slip away.
As a working, single mother of 2 young boys this vibrant woman was determined to find out what was challenging her health and regain her life.
The doctors were unable to help. They simply shrugged their shoulders and said "it's stress".
Eventually she could no longer work. Gia was devastated. She had to surrender her dreams and move to Salt Lake City to be near her mother who could help with the boys.
Gia's Mother, Paula, was doing the most she could to build a business that would allow her to be the sole financial support for Gia and boys.
Finally the diagnoses started coming ... I won't share the very long list here , but I will say they include Lyme disease along with all the devastating infections that accompany this illness and a blood disease that dramatically affects her red blood cells.
After almost a decade of disappointing ups and downs and several different kinds of expensive doctors and treatments we are being told there is an answer.
The doctors are now saying that Gia MUST move to a much lower elevation (sea level if possible) and a milder, calmer climate if she is to heal, live a full life with her boys and begin to work again.
Hope and excitement are coming back to this family that has been so devastated by chronic illness.
A move to the right location for Gia and her boys would put 10 years of suffering and loss behind them.
But there are simply no funds left for such a big move. It is never easy to ask for help, but we need your help now.
We have come so far. This move can end a decade of pain and illness with a shortened lifespan for Gia
and allow her to once again become a vital and vibrant member of society.
I am Paula, Gia's mom and my heart both aches deeply for what my daughter and grandsons have endured and rejoices that there is now such a promising possibility.
I'm nearing 70 years old and the vast majority of my income has gone to support my family.
I feel blessed and grateful that I could do this for them, but now there simply is not enough left for the moving costs and expense of first
and last months rent and deposit and all that goes along with a major move.
We need $14,000 to make this life changing move.
The medical professionals helping Gia have suggested that once she settles somewhere at a low elevation if it is at all possible she should go to
Sanoviv Medical Institute in Mexico for Lyme treatments.
If, through your generosity and kindness, there are any excess funds received from this campaign they will go toward her stay at Sanoviv.
