Banvel Pre-School in Zambia, Africa

Hello! I’m Mia and I am currently volunteering in a preschool in Livingstone, Zambia. Banvel Christian School is a place where kids ages 2-6 start their education with the goal of being prepared for primary school when they get older. At Banvel, there are 3 classrooms inside half of a house and a hut outside. Sending these children to school is essential to reducing the poverty level- parents have an opportunity for childcare so that they are able to work and the children are able to learn. The kids here are the most loving and kind tiny humans and deserve the best future that is possible. As I teach them in the classroom and play with them between class, I learn more and more how much they are capable of and how eager they are to get an education. I am raising money to get them basic school supplies (there are less pencils in the school than there are kids), hygiene products such as toothbrushes (many of these young children have visible dental decay already), supplies for food, and toys along with whatever else the school might benefit from. Two of the volunteers who came a few weeks before me have raised money to start fixing some of the construction based projects and painting in the school. I have been working in partner with them and together we are hoping to be able to make this school a better, safer, and happy environment for these children to learn and grow in.
