Banks needs knee surgery!!

Hi everyone! I’m Sydney, Banks’ Mom. My sweet boy has had a severe, fluke injury and he needs surgery on at least one of his hind legs ASAP. This obviously came as a huge shock to anyone who knows my sweet wiggle butt. He just turned 1 on Sunday, is usually full of life and love. He is 70 pounds, but currently not walking and I live on a 3rd-floor walk up. I am nowhere near equipped financially or physically to do this on my own.

Wednesday night, we ended up at the emergency vet. Banks wouldn’t eat, drink, or move. After a long and terrifying night, we’ve now been referred to an orthopedic surgeon for a TPLO repair and luxating patella. Banks is set to have his consult in a few weeks but I need help. We have a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon on Feb 20th, and are hoping to get his surgery done soon after.

I hate sharing my situations like this, but I am currently working 2 jobs in Philadelphia just to make ends meet for myself. I have been accepted to go back to school for my Masters in Social Work this fall. However, I have to take care of my baby first. I have nothing even remotely close to the amount I need and specialty surgeons require payment upfront. I am begging anyone who can donate, share, anything, to please do so!! I’m hoping to fundraise in every way possible. We love you all and I really appreciate anything you can do to support Banks!

I also am very understanding of how shocking the total amount is. But let me break down the information I currently have for anyone wondering. Banks needs TWO surgeries, both on the same leg - one to stabilize his luxating patella, and another to repair his torn TPLO. In Philly, just one of those surgeries is around $8,000. Then, you include the consultation that is $250 just to walk in the door, that does not account for his X-rays, MRI if needed, sedation to do these things, bloodwork, etc. I also have already accumulated a bill for the emergency vet originally, his pain meds, and all of the tools I need. I have to order an appropriate harness to help me carry him up 4 flights of stairs as he weighs more than half my weight, I'm getting turf to allow him to go to the bathroom inside to limit his strain, he will also need rehab or an equipped caregiver to help me out when I return to work after his surgery. I am absolutely getting multiple opinions, and not ruling out driving to NC with him where my family is for surgery. However, that is also more time off and stress for both of us. I am open to any and all suggestions, I just ask that you only send ortho surgeon suggestions and not GP as that is the route that has been recommended for us.
