Hi, my wife and I adopted two beautiful 7 month bonded pair brother cats.
They were found on the streets in north Washington and were bounced from shelter to shelter for a while.
When we asked the store to see them we were told 'you will not want these, they hiss and are highly aggressive' they had been there two weeks and no body wanted them.
A very shy all black cat called Mr. Whiskers and a very protective of his brother, black and white cat , Bandit. We met them and indeed there was hissing and a lot of claws. They were scared. When the next litter was due to be delivered we were told they'd be going back to the main shelter, and honestly it wasn't looking good. They were unwanted.
We couldn't bear the thought of the possibility of these brothers being unalived. So we adopted them. It took us two and a half hours to get them in a crate. They were so nervous and scared and only had each other.
Once home it took them a couple of days but their personalities soon started to show. They of course, wouldn't come near us but they were curious and cheeky. Bandit, being the explorer, showed his brother all the cool things in the apartment and if bandit was ever hidden whiskers will do the sweetest meow to find him. They are truly bonded. We were patient and persevered with love and now they are the most loving sweet boys who adore cuddles. A total 180 from when we first met them. They just needed love.
they went for a check up and vaccines at the vets and found they had giardia. The vaccines were postponed. They were medicated and all the necessary precautions have been taken, with many check ups in-between. This has already been very costly with various test being taken. They were both taken for their vaccines two days ago Mr whiskers was fine but bandit ran a fever of 104. He was kept at the vets to cool down and a blood test was taken but the results will not be ready until Monday. Today his temperature is at 105. The vet is suggesting x-rays and a whole list of test which is coming to around $5000.
We have insurance but this will not cover all of it. We are really struggling to get funds together to find out what's wrong with bandit. A high fever in a cat is crucial to get medical care asap. He's 7 months old. A baby. We have tried to get cash together but we've hit a wall. The savings we had has been used for the previous bills and partly towards this but it's not enough. Even if you can spare a dollar it helps towards this. We just want our baby boy fit and healthy and to feel safe and loved. To have a good life. We thank you for taking the time to read this and hope we can get the help he needs.
All the love and appreciation shelly and kyrsha
*Update*
Bandit's fever finally broke after being at the vets and being closely observed. His bloods were taken and they came back abnormal. Both boys were also going through Giardia medicine so very stressful trying to keep bandit clean and not stress him out too much. The vets then scanned bandit and found two shadows on his intestines. The vets think he has fip (Feline infectious peritonitis) kitty COVID.
They want to x-ray. the cost of an x-ray plus meds is insane so we are starting him on meds as soon as possible with an x-ray to follow when funds are better. Fip is not something I had ever heard of. It has a high mortality rate. Only in the past year has medication become accessible where as before it was sourced on the black market.
The vets and the people on Facebook at warriors against fip have been amazing in their support.
We are able to get bandits medicine on a month to month basis but he still needs regular blood tests and an x-ray as fluid builds and will need draining providing it's the wet form. Dry form affects the brain. It's all still very uncertain but he's moving and eating we hope we caught this early enough for him to recover.
We want to thank everyone who has donated we honestly can not thank you enough.
Once we know more we will update.
Thank you again x
