Bandit & Bella Blue. Rescued Bronx kittens
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Sonia and I'm an independent animal rescuer in NYC. On the morning of January 20th, in 17 degree weather, I trapped 2 four month old kittens & their mom, in a NYCHA maintenance lot in the Bronx. These babies had lived outside, in this lot, in the freezing cold without any access to warmth or shelter from the elements. As soon as I rescued them, it was painfully clear that these kittens were suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection, as well has internal and external parasites. The URI was so severe, that one kitten (Bandit) had already lost vision in one eye. His sister, Bella Blue, could barely breathe and was nearly frozen to death. She did sustain frostbite to one ear and will likely lose part of that ear. Luckily, their mom, who most likely had been an indoor cat at some point in her life, was not suffering as badly as her babies.
The kittens were seen by a veterinarian immediately and started on intravenous antibiotics for their URI. They were also treated for the plethora of parasites feasting on their little bodies, inside and out. Their condition has improved somewhat, but given the severity of their URI's, they had a 2nd round of intravenous antibiotics on February 5th.
Little Bandit will have to have his damaged eye removed once he's well enough for surgery, likely at the same time that he & Bella Blue have their spay/neuter surgery.
I have started this GoFund me to help raise funds for their ongoing medical care. As of right now, their medical bills are just over $1000, which I have paid out of pocket. I expect these costs to at least double, once they go in for their next re-check and then for the enucleation and spay/neuter surgeries. This estimate doesn't even take into account their mama's veterinary costs.
I know that these sweet kittens could not have survived even a day or two more out in the harsh elements. I am hopeful that they will continue on their healing journey and will eventually be able to enjoy their new indoor lives, as healthy and happy kittens should.
Any donation, small or large, is greatly appreciated.
