Music has been a huge part of my life. Building custom hand carved guitars made from reclaimed lumber is dear to me. This planet is ours, and we should use all our resources carefully. Conservation is key to this. I do use exotic woods, but I try to use only lumber that has come from fallen/dead trees, or that has been slated for burning or trash. Using the correct lumbers for guitars helps their tonality. So taking my time and making sure the right kinds of lumber are used is also of the utmost importance. Balancing work on guitars and family has been a struggle for me, but I think balance is in the near future.
My Son’s first day of school starts next week. For the past 6 years I’ve been a stay at home dad. Early on, running a construction business, the stress of all the paper work, power tools, and baby were completely overwhelming. Also babies and power tools don’t mix. In the past there have been many careers for me. Everyone of which was there to support my love of music and family. Several careers ago internally deciding to build guitars would be my main goal. I built an electric guitar in my basement with very few tools and absolutly no guide but the internet. As the years have gone by since then, the continual honing of my skills toward this endeavor has been a secondary goal to getting my son healthily and happily to school age. My new journey is about to begin. Firstly I will have to figure out how to get cash together to power my small shop in the back yard as it will need insulation and climate control.
