BAMEOTUK Network Symposium 2023

Hi, my name is Musharrat; I am a co-founder of BAMEOTUK.

We raised £1345/2k last year; we now extend the target to £4345 on this same request from last year's 2022 BAMEOTUK Symposium. A little maths .... we are asking for donations to raise £3000 for the 2023 symposium, £4345-£1345.

BAMEOTUK Network was formed in response to the ongoing racism and health inequities impacting the Black and Global Majority heritages populations in the UK, affecting life expectancy, access to services and resources for a healthy life, educational attainment, and career progression, to name a few. Especially during the events and evidence raised during the height of the COVID19 pandemic. Furthermore, during this time, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists' (RCOT) response was a lack of show of compassion and solidarity with its paying members from Black and Global Majority populations.

We work tirelessly as unpaid volunteers to start the change in the profession, create collaboratives for action and work nationally and internationally.

We delivered our 1st free BAMEOTUK symposium 10th September 2022; the hashtag #bameotuk2022 trended on Twitter. The symposium shares with all in the occupational therapy profession the work of occupational therapy clinicians and scholars from Black and Global Majority heritages who are underrepresented in traditional conferences. To deliver this symposium annually, we need your support to raise money to purchase the e-platform to have the symposium virtually so that people can attend it for free. Also, we want to pay the presenters for their contributions, as individuals and groups from Black and Global Majority populations in doing this work are usually asked for their labour for free or for less #nofreelabour. If the funds raised allow, we would also like to pay the volunteers.
