Bambi & Lily need our help!

Lily came to Chapelwood Farm in foal, rescued by Claudia (This is what she does!) at the age of just 3, Bambi is Lily’s 2nd foal and quite honestly this mare has been through enough and is now a huge part of the family.

Bambi was born on Sunday 12th May at 3am, the delivery was stressful but all was looking positive, after a few hours, it was clear that Bambi wasn’t going to stand to nurse without a lot of support and intervention, Claudia, Jimmy, and the Chapelwood crew rallied to feed her round the clock, hand expressing milk from Lily and for the next 24 hours just focused on keeping her alive.

On Monday 13th May, Bambi was rushed to intensive care and given a survival rate of less than 25%, born 3 weeks early this premature foal urgently needed plasma, fluids, and antibiotics to stand any chance of surviving.

To this point, as I’m writing this, she is a little miracle, she survived the night and whilst the odds were against her, she is slowly showing signs of improvement and has a real opportunity of thriving not just surviving. This will come at a huge financial cost; Bambi is by no means out of the woods yet.

Right now, she is in the best place, she needs more plasma, she needs to be closely monitored, and she needs the expert care from the vets, she should still be tucked inside a pregnant Lily and because of this she needs time for her bones to get stronger and form properly.

Claudia needs to be pragmatic and realistically there is no bottomless pit of funding to support Bambi and provide the medical intervention she needs. At only a little over 2 days old this little filly’s vet bills are already in excess of 3k and rising.

We need to bring this little girl and her mummy home….Claudia, Jimmy and their family need her home.

They ask nothing of anyone, fearlessly proud (slightly stubborn!) and completely selfless in all they do, If we (Chapelwood liveries) didn’t set this up they wouldn’t because they don’t want to ask for financial contribution, we know how truly special this foal and mare are to Claudia, it takes a village to raise a baby and we are all desperate to help.

Bambi isn’t out of the woods, so many people seeing Bambi’s posts are wanting to help and every little bit, no matter how small will help towards bringing her and Lily home and fund the care she so desperately needs right now.
