Help CJ and His Best Friend, Bam

Hi, I’m Christie Tawiah, and I’m fundraising for my little brother CJ and his dog, Bambino—aka Bam.

A few months ago, Bam started limping on his back right leg and was unable to put full pressure on it. They started him on pain medications, hoping it was something minor, but over time his condition worsened. He hasn’t been able to put pressure on both back legs and limps around, unable to run. After multiple vet visits, it was determined that Bam may have a partial or full cruciate ligament tear in both hind knees—the canine version of an ACL injury.

Determining the next steps for Bam’s recovery will entail getting X-rays and then surgery on both knees. The estimated cost for surgery is incredibly high—$5,000 to $6,500 per knee. So we’re looking at about $10,000-$12,000 to fix both knees. That doesn’t include diagnostic imaging, medications, or post-op care.

Bam is a gentle, goofy, 80-pound American Bully who’s been CJ’s constant companion since Bam was 8 weeks old. From college in Alabama to cross-country moves and road trips, they’ve done life side by side. CJ has always put Bam first—driving across states just so Bam wouldn’t have to fly in cargo.

Now 8 years old, Bam is struggling just to walk. Watching him lose his mobility has been heartbreaking.
