Ball vs. Basal: Kickin' Cancer in the Face!
Donation protected
As some of you may or may not know, earlier this year Sam had surgery to remove a large mass from his chest. The surgery and recovery was both intense and challenging. This surgery put Sam out of work and took him away from his passion of acting but ever resilient and positive, Sam forged positively ahead believing he would bounce back better than ever. However, he had this nagging worry about a scar on his face and was off to the dermatologist.
As it turns out, Sam’s scar had been hiding a cancerous secret. Sam had been growing a basal cell carcinoma on his face for likely six to seven years. Upon meeting with the dermatologist, it became clear this was no small tumor, in fact, it would require reconstructive surgery from a plastic surgeon to ensure that Sam’s eyelid, cheek and facial muscles would not only look “normal” but would also function properly.
The physicians that are most skilled in both the cancer removal and the reconstruction are out of Sam’s insurance network leading to an astronomical medical bill (already on top of the bills he is still facing from the chest surgery). Sam will not be able to work for at least one to two months (not to mention he will miss celebrating Thanksgiving, his birthday and Christmas with his family as he will be in recovery) as the surgery will be intense and will require dozens of stitches all throughout his face.
To know Sam is to love Sam, especially with that handsome Viking face we want to preserve! He is one of the most generous and kind-hearted people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I am proud to call him my son-in-law. He is always quick with a joke and cheeky with a prank, it’s hard not to laugh once you hear his infectious laughter (we always say, Sam is the funniest person he knows!). If you can find it in your heart to donate to Sam’s medical bills, I know that he and Siobhan would be forever grateful.
