Three weeks ago 39 huskies and two cats were left behind when their breeder died. With no where to go they were impounded at a high kill shelter in New Mexico & were set to be euthanized after their court hearing. With the help of many rescuers, volunteers, fosters & social media, that didn’t happen. 38 dogs & 2 cats were transferred to rescues, leaving Bali in the shelter with a 3 day extension on his euthanasia date. 

You can see in the video just how scared Bali was. In what might be the most traumatic time of his life, he was choosing flight over being aggressive with those trying to help him. That said something to me. I lost sleep over #776, who he was before Bali. I couldn’t handle the thought of him being flooded with fear in an unknown place, now without his pack members, all he knows. We couldn’t leave him behind. So, Sunshine stepped up for Bali knowing how much work was ahead but also trusting that our community would support him.

Monday came and two rescuers were able to get him into a crate and into a quiet boarding facility nearby. We all felt a great sense of relief knowing that he wouldn’t be euthanized and that the decompression could finally begin. Since then, the owner of the facility has been sitting in his kennel everyday. He is still very scared but is doing much better than he was in the shelter. We don’t expect him to trust humans yet, why would he? While we just want to hug and kiss him, we are taking it slow and know that he needs extensive training. More training than we would ever expect a foster to provide. Thankfully, a wonderful trainer has offered to help him for a month and for a fraction of what that would typically cost.
