Dear Friends Around the World: Bali needs your help!

Not since the bombings of 2002, nor in the aftermath of the Mount Agung eruptions in 2017, has the Balinese economy suffered as it has since March 2020: international travel has stopped, while hotels, restaurants and streets have been abandoned. A significant percentage of the population in Bali rely on tourism for their livelihoods; since the pandemic ground the economy to a halt, they have lost their jobs and their savings, and have been forced to seek out new ways to survive.  If you’ve ever visited or lived in Bali, if you honeymooned or still dream of holidaying on this island, we urge you to help the people of Bali survive - and thrive.

What is BaliCore?
A proactive community response to ongoing critical needs

BaliCore is an initiative we’ve organized in response to this crisis. The Bali COVID-19 Relief Expedition (BaliCore) team, in collaboration with idGuides, a Jakarta-based community trail development specialists, and in partnership with five prominent local NGOs (Yayasans), is seeking to raise substantial funds for rural communities across Bali that have been impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the lingering shutdown of international travel.

As part of reaching that goal, a small group of hikers, complying with strict COVID-19 safety protocols, will set off on an inaugural 10-day, coast-to-coast walking expedition through the heart of Bali from April 2 - 11, 2021. During this odyssey, participants will post images and stories about the plight of people in these regions, through a series of social media documentaries called People of Bali.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Your donation, no matter the amount, can transform the lives of families and communities in need. USD $20 (IDR 300,000) provides clean drinking water to a family for 3 years while USD $30 (IDR 500,000) feeds a family for 2 weeks or helps deliver food and medicine to dogs around the island. Funds raised will be used by each of our partner NGOs (Yayasans) to make an impact on the lives of individuals and communities around Bali:

SOLEMEN Indonesia Funds will be used (1) to develop sustainable gardens and an aquaponics project, funded by the Australian government; and (2) to distribute up to 80 food packages to targeted “SoleBuddies” across the island, each package feeding a family of four for one month.

Scholars of Sustenance (Indonesia) Funds will be used to deliver highly nutritious meals to the neediest communities in and around the island of Bali. https://www.scholarsofsustenance.org/sosbali-indonesia

Kopernik Funds will be used to support communities impacted by COVID-19 in Bali through various sustainable initiatives: Urban gardens; Pasar Rakyat (People’s Market); and supporting women-led micro-enterprises. https://kopernik.info/

Social Impakt Funds will be used to provide high impact ceramic water filters to (up to) 200 families in need, positively impacting 1000 lives while improving their health and income.

BAWA (Bali Animal Welfare Association) Funds will provide the Street Feeding team with enough dry food to feed up to 1,000 dogs each day, for one month; and to provide vaccinations and general treatments along the way. https://bawabali.com/

BaliCore is entirely volunteer-based. All of the monies raised through this campaign will be distributed to the NGOs (Yayasans) to support their operations.
