Baking to help feed children in El Tejar
Donation protected

Hello, My name is Manuel Villarreal (Manny). This story begins in 2020, the first year of my retirement after 44 years working in Catholic schools. My friend Anthony and I traveled to EL Tejar, Veracruz , Mexico, a town of extreme poverty. There we met a poor, single, hard-working mother and decided to help her on her journey by providing an education at an international chef school to change her life. The idea originally came from our friend Richard who often ventured on what he called MISSIONS to change lives through education. Fabiola became our MISSION in 2020. Fast forward to 2022 and Fabiola has graduated top of her class in chef school. After graduation she opened a pantry in her small home and began selling pastries to the locals. She was successful and now makes $13 a day! By her standards, she now has a successful career and is very happy with life. This year, Fabiola decided to give back and adopted 5 students at her local elementary school and provides them with breakfast pastries. She contacted me recently and said she would like to adopt a classroom (approximately 30 students) for the coming school semester but needs financial help. I am thrilled at this news as it means she is sharing my vision of using education to help others who are less fortunate. And so, this Adopt-A-Student program is born. It will cost $.50 per day to provide breakfast pastries to a student or $15 per day to feed 30 students. This coming semester lasts approximately 100 school days. Hence, the total need for the program is $15 per day for 100 days, or $1,500. I’m adding another $375 for a new bicycle (her current bicycle needs an update: see above). Our ultimate plans are much bigger and would include building a bakery and feeding many more children, but every long journey must begin with one small step. This is that first step. Please support our cause and help us feed children who are in need and hungry. No donation is too small.
