We’re raising money for Cancer Research UK through our bakesale to help fund the science behind treating, diagnosing and preventing cancer, which is more important now than ever, as one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Summer last year, my dad, Ian, was sick and in and out of hospital for a while before being diagnosed with DLBCL, a rare type of lymphoma or blood cancer, and because of delayed diagnosis and the particular aggressiveness of the type of cancer, it had progressed to a later stage than they’d originally thought. Thanks to research into cancer treatment, he was able to receive a combination of a trial drug, medication and radiation therapy and has now been in remission since March! We’re lucky and beyond glad to have had this outcome, but so many still don’t, and that’s exactly why it’s so important to fund cancer research for all those people affected by cancer and the families and friends who love them.
