My name is Arjit Karki and I am working with Anita Mahotra to raise crucial funds to revive the Basanta Shree Library at Shree Malika Secondary School, located in the remote Bajura district of Nepal’s Far-Western Province.
Shree Malika Secondary School is the epicenter of education in Bajura, serving nearly 1,942 students. Many of these bright young minds come from marginalized Dalit and Janajati families, living in a district where over 63% of households live below the poverty line.
While the school has a library building founded in 2015, a lack of formal support has left it in a devastating state. Today, the shelves are almost completely empty. The few books remaining are in poor conditions, and there is no management system to guide the students.
Studies consistently prove that access to quality books directly improves student performance. These 1,942 students deserve the same opportunity to learn, read, and dream as children around the world.
Through collaborations with TAPAS Nepal, Badimalika Municipality, and Smart Health Global, we are launching this fundraising initiative to completely transform this space into a knowledge hub
Every dollar raised goes directly toward equipping the library and making it functional. Your donations will fund:
- Diverse Books: A wide selection of books for all academic programs, from Early Childhood Development (ECD) up to Grade 12, as well as CTEVT technical curriculum.
- Proper Infrastructure: Durable metal shelving and protective furniture to keep books safe from dampness and wear.
- A Modern System: Establishing a cataloging and borrowing system so students can easily access and check out materials fairly.
- Staffing: Training and hiring a dedicated library manager for day-to-day operations.
- Community Access: Creating an inclusive, welcoming space that remains open to the wider Bajura community.
