Arviat Humane Society is raising money to donate to Bailey’s vet bills, which are expected to be thousands of dollars.
On Thursday, March 5th, Bailey was shot at the local dump and was left alone, in pain, crying for help, while he froze to the ground in -30 C weather.
As soon as they heard about Bailey, our volunteers rushed to the dump. When they found him, he was frozen to the ground, barely breathing. Our volunteers dug Bailey out of the snow, chipped away ice with a window scraper, and rushed him to safety.
For over five hours, our volunteers shaved him and administered first aid. What they found was heartbreaking. Bailey had severe hypothermia and frostbite. His shoulder was covered in shotgun wounds, having been shot multiple times with birdshot (32 bullet holes). They cleaned and bandaged his wounds and monitored him throughout the night.
On Friday, March 6th, Bailey flew out on the first flight to Winnipeg, where he was rushed to the emergency vet. He is still there receiving the medical care he needs, including IV fluids, blood work, pain medication, antibiotics, and x-rays. He may need surgery on his shoulder but it is too soon to tell.
Please consider making a donation towards Bailey's care. Every dollar counts.
