Our sweet 11 year old Pomeranian, Bailey is fighting for her life after a shocking attack.
On Wednesday, June 11th, she was unexpectedly attacked by a deer that was roaming inside the fenced yard of our home. She sustained injuries from the buck ramming its antler into the side of her body, causing multiple punctures through her side and back. She suffered from several broken ribs, and multiple organs herniated through those ribs from the impact. The antlers also punctured two holes into her diaphragm, causing part of her pancreas to get stuck through one of those holes, which later caused her to now fight through pancreatitis.
The extent of her injuries has led to significant medical costs, and we desperately need your help to give Bailey the best chance at recovery.
She’s a strong girl continuing to fight through her recovery process after her surgery on Thursday evening (June 12th). Her surgery involved repairing broken ribs, hernia, diaphragmatic tears, and treatment for pancreatitis. She had a chest tube inserted and was also put on oxygen to help regulate her breathing. She’s being cared for at Marqueen Pet Emergency Clinic in Roseville. The team has been doing an incredible job with her care, and they are all impressed with how well she’s been improving in her recovery. Even though that’s the case, she’s had some complications during surgery which raised the estimated costs for her surgery and the number of days needed to stay in their care for recovery.
Our initial estimate was anywhere between $9,000-$13,000. That was steep for our financial situation, but we couldn’t not try to save her life, especially since she didn’t have any preexisting health issues. We have pet insurance for her that will reimburse us $7,000, so we were prepared to pay the extra $2,000-$6,000. As the days have gone by, her current costs have now grown to $16,150. It’s approximately $1,550 for additional days at their facility. This includes the stay itself, the intravenous therapy treatment, opioids for pain management, assisted feeding tube, antibiotics and staying in the ICU. At this point, we don’t have the funding for her to continue her stay at Marqueen Pet Emergency Clinic, and we don’t have answers to when she will be well enough to be discharged. We’ve had to pay for her surgery/treatment upfront and are now charged daily. It breaks our heart living with what she’s been through and we’ve been stressed patiently waiting to bring her back home for the rest of her recovery.
If you are able to donate any amount, we would be so grateful for your generosity to help keep our furbaby fighting through recovery. She’s so resilient and has fought so hard to recover and be here with us, we’re trying our best to fight for her as well. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing our story on your platforms to help us reach our goal.
