Bailey had an infectious smile and a zest for life. He possessed the talent of being able to talk to anyone, which served him well on his AdVANtures. After attending the University of Minnesota, Bailey set off to live on the road in his retrofit van, working along the way as an IT tech. Family and friends would enjoy long conversations while he traveled, telling of his adventures, people he met and places he was visiting. A grandma in Florida, that was having computer problems, served him brownies and frozen pizza and offered to adopt him. He met a couple hiking and invited them back to the van for breakfast, which must have been quite a sight considering the van was not standing height inside. He spent many nights in Walmart parking lots or at rest stops on his way to the next destination.
Upon reaching Portland, he did some temp work with Lewis Audio Video. He was excited when they offered him a full-time position and ended up "settling down" outside of Portland. All the outdoor activities available and the unusual events offered in and around Portland appealed to him: the hot sauce festival, mountain biking, mac-n-cheese fest, hiking, rock climbing, the world's largest blanket fort, and snowboarding. We heard stories about "family dinners" with the large group of friends in Oregon: Rainier beer (which apparently goes with all cuisines), making kombucha (kind of gross because the starter is the consistency of mucus), and Thanksgiving mash potatoes with sour cream, cream cheese, butter and cream (because when he asked his mom about a recipe, she said "sometimes I add"... so, he added them all). He lived and laughed so much in his 23 years.
On June 2nd, 2019, Bailey was in a motorcycle accident and passed away at the scene.
We are hoping to raise money for a scholarship in his honor. Upon graduation Bailey was awarded a scholarship through our local Princeton Dollars for Scholars. We'd like to extend an opportunity of higher education to a student in Bailey's hometown, so they can be given a chance to succeed.
