Bailey boo go fund me for Baltos Dog Rescue
Donation protected
In January we were alerted to a heavily pregnant young female dog who was potentially in trouble. Time was critical as mumma was about to give birth any day and her owner was threatening to PTS because she couldn’t afford the – or any -vet care.
In all honesty not all of the team were in favour of stepping in, we know that taking in pregnant dogs from Joe public can be a risky and costly endeavour, just one medical problem can result in vet costs of thousands of pounds. Money that we don’t have.
Ultimately though we had two options, do nothing and mum and unborn babies would all die or take her and do the very best we possibly can. So we did what we do and collected mumma immediately.
Within 3 days Mumma gave birth to 11 beautiful babies. Amongst this litter was our little Bailey Bear, it was very quickly apparent that this little man had some problems, he hasn’t developed in the same way as his brothers and sisters. He doesn’t feed as well, he sleeps A LOT – when hes not busy beating up his siblings and his foster mum, he can be very unsteady on his paws. Bailey has been closely monitored since day 1, we now know he has hydrocephalus and an open fontanelle.
Baileys prognosis is unknown, but what we do know is this boy is a fighter and while he wants to fight we will fight with and for him. We have found him a home that is very experienced in caring for dogs with disabilities, we have done hours and hours of research and reached out for advice from both experts and people with experience of this. Everything is in place for Bailey to get the best possible chance BUT its going to come at a cost. He will require close monitoring by a vet, that in itself comes at a high price, he requires a special diet and medication and will do for an indeterminate time, he is likely to require physio and hydrotherapy to give him the best chance of developing.
All of this of course is dependant on Bailey surviving, he may live for weeks or he may live for years, we simply don’t know. What we do know is that a) we will not allow him to suffer and b) we will never shy away from giving this beautiful bear every opportunity.
In a world where bull breeds are increasingly being condemned we know that many people out there share our belief, the belief that EVERY life is valuable and there should be no price on this, Bailey is loved and he is wanted and he is our wee man but we need some help to help him.
We have set a high target of £10.000, this is based on the hope that Bailey will live a long life and all funds raised through this page will be ringfenced for his care. Should the worst happen and the funds not be needed for Bailey we will pass them onto another dog with disabilities, be that in our care or another rescue
