Bailee’s Incident Medical Expenses
May 10, 2021 started off as a beautiful and happy day with my daughter and I; it was the day after Mother's Day and we planned to celebrate Mother's Day after I got off work. Our day started as usual with me waking my sweet girl up and hearing her laugh and giggles while I tickled her. My daughter is a virtual student and I have the honor and privilege for her to go to work with me. As we returned back to my job after lunch approx. 1:20pm, we exit the vehicle, walked along the sidewalk with approx. 10 feet left to enter my office. Out of nowhere we heard what sounded like gunshots, my 9 yr. old daughter got down along with everyone else outside, I turned around to see if it was a car that backfired since there was no visual activity and as more gunshots sounded, I got on the ground and completely covered my daughter while at the same time looking back for anyone with a gun. I turned back around to tell my daughter we were going to stay on the ground until this was over then I realized the UNIMAGINABLE that my daughter was struck by a stray bullet before she laid flat on the sidewalk. I immediately screamed for help and called 911, she was rushed to the children's hospital to Trauma, the bullet did not exit, she was bleeding internally, she was losing so much blood and her blood pressure was dropping. There was no time to go to X-Ray/MRI to determine where the bullet was, the surgeons and entire wonderful Trauma team had to get her ready to go straight to surgery. They explained to me that they were going in blind and not knowing where the bullet was trapped, I understood and gave full permission to do whatever they needed to save my baby girl! Surgery lasted a few hours & felt like infinity, the bullet was trapped in her stomach and as a result my sweet girl received 3 bags of blood, appendix was removed and colon repaired. Following surgery, she was taken to X-Ray/MRI then to ICU for 5 days and the remainder 5 days in the surgical unit. During this time, my daughter had to have Occupational Therapy to relearn how to open her toothpaste, brush her teeth and other basic living activities along with physical therapy assisting my baby back walking. Initially, it was very challenging, she struggled to open toothpaste and could not stand to brush her teeth. We used a wheelchair during the stay in the hospital and we continued to use a wheelchair for the next 45 days. My daughter had additional procedure and X-ray's during her stay in the hospital and ongoing outpatient procedures, medical appointments and physical therapy. Due to the injury, my daughter developed severe nerve pain that is improving; she is unable to detect pain or comfort in her right foot, her nerve sensations are opposite of what they should be. This incident was a result of a road rage incident that had absolutely nothing to do with us approx. 200 yards away(equivalent to 2 football fields). The suspect was found and arrested the same day thanks to the quick PD agency teamwork. As a result of this incident, my daughter is still under medical care and continuing to receive medical care; she is still ongoing in physical therapy and other specialty doctors to get her back to 100%. Due to her medical treatment, hospital stay and continued outpatient procedures, the medical bills are several thousands of dollars. I would greatly appreciate any monetary donations small or big to assist with medical bills. Please continue to send prayers for a totally recovery! God truly gave my daughter a miracle.
