Hello, I’m Matt Bosson, and I’m raising funds to make a new short film, to be entitled Bad/Past Perfect. The theme of this project stems from a song I wrote about life changes and the sense of realizing that the “old you” might not recognize the “you today.” Stylistically, this film plays as a rock video one moment and a hallucinatory nightmare, in scripted narrative format, the next – a dream in which our character foresees his own death.

 

My last short film – Desperate Manny - was crowdfunded and released in 2016. It played at the Borrego Springs Film Festival, and during that experience, I fell in love with this town and the fantastic desert surrounding it. There is a good reason why so many Hollywood productions have been shot here over the years: the cinematic potential is breathtaking!

 

Along with filmmaking, I'm also a songwriter/musician. And as co-founder and bandleader of country band, The Running Kind, played in Southern California for over ten years and released an album to international acclaim in 2011. More recently, I’ve been releasing my music, as a solo artist, with "Matt Bosson - Sunburns From Outer Space," in 2020, and in collaboration with the LA art-rock ensemble Ghost Town, releasing "Matt Bosson and Ghost Town - Vol. 1" in 2021.  The music in this film will include a new unreleased song, recently recorded with Frank San Filippo and Ghost Town, entitled "Past Perfect."  

 

The short film is really a dream project for me. It’s the first time in my life that I’ve blended my two creative passions so closely: music and filmmaking. Bad/Past Perfect will be a pleasantly strange short that will entertain those who like tales of the weird, rock music, and the beauty of the open desert!

The budget isn't too large, but there will be production costs, including camera and lighting equipment rental, sound recording and mixing, post-production, FX make-up, and the travel and support expenses associated with shooting in remote locations.
