BAD APPENDIX! Help Lucy's family pay for surgery
Donation protected
After a weekend of fighting what we thought was a stomach bug, our little 8-year-old flower, Lucy, had to be rushed to the ER on Monday night with a burst appendix!
We're all hoping the surgeon was able to remove everything. She'll be in the hospital for the next few days to keep an eye on her. She's in pain and being kept sedated, but her mom has been by her side every hour of every day.
Lucy's mom, Jenny Smith, has been a fixture in the restaurant business in Yelm almost since she could walk. Lucy's dad, Bahman Robinson, left his job at Mountain Lumber a few years ago to help Jenny run her own little restaurant in McKenna. After 3 years, Jenny and Bam jumped at the opportunity to start a second location in the very place that Jenny pranced around in her cow costume when she was Lucy's age. They've been feeding locals, winning over diners with their award-winning service and breakfast menu, making every customer feel like family.
AND THEN COVID HIT.
For almost a year now, they've struggled to keep afloat while restaurants across Washington closed, then opened, then closed again. While they firmly believe that the drive-thru window at Ma & Pa's Family Diner is what saved them from going under, they were forced to say goodbye to Jenny's Barnhouse in McKenna. As small business owners, they haven't reached a point where they can afford health care, so every broken arm and finger (Gavin ;-) hurts them almost as much financially.
With Lucy still in the hospital in guarded condition, Jenny hasn't been able to work, and they have no idea what the final tally for Lucy's surgery and recovery will be. (We’ve heard the bills could total up to more than $70,000!)
We know that there are so many people out there that will send good vibes her way, and that may be willing to chip in a few dollars to help offset this most unexpected expense for the family.
The organizers of this campaign are the Harshfield family: Jenn, Steve, Noelle, and Justin. We also live in the Yelm area, and we’ve become good friends with Jenny & Bam and their family over the last few years - like a lot of other people, our friendship started over breakfast at Jenny’s Barnhouse every Saturday morning.
We plan to give Jenny & Bam 100% of the proceeds of this campaign via cashier check to offset the hospital bills as they start to roll in. Their entire family means a lot to us, and we want to do everything we can to help them through this. Thank you so much!
