Will’s Drumming Journey with DCI - Drum Corps International

Hi, my name is Kari and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my son, Will. Will has been taking drum set lessons since he was 9 years old and has been drumming non-stop ever since he first held a drumstick. I can honestly say that I have never seen a person more dedicated to his craft than this kid. He practices every day without fail, sometimes for hours at a time. He loves many types of music but has a soft spot for Jazz.

In addition to drum set, Will has participated in both concert and jazz bands with his middle and high school. He has participated in District Honor Band for percussion as well as District Jazz Band for drum set. Recently, he really put himself out there and auditioned for a contracted position with Atlanta CV Bugle and Drum Corps (now a part of DCI - or Drum Corps International). His hard work and dedication has paid off in a big way! At just 15 years old, Will was offered a contract to play drum set for the corps for their 2024 season!!!

We are ecstatic for Will and excited to see what this new opportunity will bring for him. That being said, we have really had to crunch some numbers to make this happen for him. Though not necessarily a huge cost (though some may disagree), it comes at a time that is not the greatest for us as a family. We have had some unexpected expenses crop up the past few months and the deadline for financing participation in CV is fast approaching. Will was a late audition so we have not have as much time to raise funds as some others who auditioned back in November and December of 2023. Every little bit helps, and some friends suggested we give this a try. I have never asked for help in this way so this is a new process for us!
