The "Back to Normal (BTN)" Fundraiser
Individuals with intellectual disabilities have felt this pandemic more than most. For many, engaging in sports is a crucial part to their lives, mentally and physically. The work that Special Olympics and similar groups do to engage their athletes in their communities is nothing short of incredible. Over the past 50 years Special Olympics has grown from a modest program serving local athletes, to becoming the world's largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sport.
My younger brother Simon turns 23 today, and I can say with 100% confidence that he would not be the man he is today without Special Olympics and similar sports organizations. This past year has been especially hard for him, not being able to play his many sports and see his peers. We have tried to stay active through walking, running, and at home workouts. Simon and our mother have coined the phrase "BTN - Back to Normal" and we are praying for that to be the case as soon as possible. As we get Back to Normal we want to help Special O and similar groups start right back up again. I will personally match up to $500 of donations, and I hope we raise even more than that! The more we raise, the more groups we can support. Not everyone has been hit financially by the pandemic and I hope that those who haven't will consider giving something small to this cause. For every dollar donated, Simon and I will walk, run, or bike 1KM, in an effort to stay active and improve our physical and mental health in these trying times. We invite others to join us!
Thanks for reading and supporting, and join us in getting #BTN.
