Back to Chios
Donation protected
Hello all! I'm heading back for my 6th trip to Chios to volunteer in refugee camps. This time, Ishmael Harris is coming along. Ishmael and I will be covering all our own expenses, and if you'd like to donate, all money will be used to directly aid refugees. I understand that this being the 6th trip everyone may be a bit tapped out, so no worries if you can't donate or can only donate a little. Anything helps!
There are 64 million refugees in the world today, more than 2,000 of whom are currently in camps in Chios. People fleeing from all over the Middle East and Africa find their way into Turkey where they pay an expensive fee to take the dangerous boat ride across the Aegean to the Greek Islands. Since 2016 the refugees have been forced to stay in rough conditions in camps in the islands for lengthy periods of time that often span more than a year.
In the past we have used donations to accomplish amazing things. The money we’ve raised has helped pay for medication, language lessons, children’s education and once, even for a whole set of dentures. We often provide things that the big NGOs on the island do not provide. The news cycle has long since moved on from the crisis but people are still fleeing their countries only to be trapped in camps in Greece waiting for long periods of time to find out if they’re to be accepted for asylum in a country or to be deported back to dangerous situations. If you are able to donate anything it would be so appreciated as a little bit of money can go a long way for these people.
