Back to Big Creek

John “Skeeter” Erickson was shot multiple times in the line of duty on July 2nd 2019.  He suffered serious wounds, including a broken femur, a fractured spine, and significant internal injuries.  John underwent multiple surgeries, and is grateful to be alive.  As he put it, “I’ve always felt like I had someone watching over me, my own guardian angel.”  For the past seventeen years, John has been a workhorse of a cop.  He didn’t look for the limelight or accolades; he just went to work.  Day in and day out fighting crime.  This event has been life changing for John and his family.  Many have rallied around the Ericksons, and they are humbled by the love, generosity, and prayers.  His family doesn’t “need” anything, as resources are in place to support them.  And John has yet to “ask” for anything: that’s not his nature or style.  He especially wanted to pass along a huge “Thank you” to the Fresno Deputy Sheriff’s Association for their continued support.

The Dream:

During some alone time with him at the hospital, John quietly shared his desire to “go home to Big Creek.”  He wanted to drive to Big Creek, and sit in the sun; it’s his happy place and where he was raised.  And If you know Skeeter, you know he loves old trucks.  His dream is to restore his 1967 Chevrolet C10.  John has been working to get it done over the past few years, however at the pace he has been going, he will turn 90 before completion.  The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise the monies necessary to complete this dream project for John.  To make his dream come true, so he can, “Drive Back to Big Creek” in style!

The Cost:

The goal is to raise enough money to pay professionals to build the ride of his dreams.  If you are a fan of vehicle restoration, you know 50K is aiming low, not high.  This is a complete rebuild from the ground up.  John will decide every detail from tires, rims, frame, suspension, engine, paint scheme, interior, gauges, sound system, and overall style.  The project will give him time to focus on healing his mind, body, and spirit on his journey of recovery.

We have hooked up with some top notch builders, and with your gracious support, we can make this happen.  We will provide updates as the work progresses, and have an unveiling down the road.  Please forward this link to anyone interested in helping Skeeter “Drive Back to Big Creek” in his dream truck.  Any monies raised above the goal, John will spend as he sees fit.  Thank you for your generosity in advance.
