We are film students at Chapman University! Our amazing crew is made of some of Chapmans most talented undergraduate and graduate filmmakers. November 13th - 23rd we will be making our thesis film as we wrap up our time at Chapman. We need your help to bring our vision to life! Filmmaking is expensive! From equipment to locations to meals for the crew, a lot goes into this process. With your help we will be able to create a film that brings love, representation, and vulnerability to the big screen. We have put our whole hearts into this film and we can’t wait to share it with you!
“Aji” is a tender family drama that follows Cathy, a 27-year-old Chinese American woman, as she returns home to Southern California to say goodbye to her dying grandmother, Amma. There, she reconnects with her nine-year-old sister, Therese. As Cathy navigates tensions with her traditional mother, Linda, and the weight of her recent job loss, she struggles to fit in a family she was once pressured to leave behind. Through quiet moments of care and shared grief, Cathy and Therese form a deeper bond, only for it to be tested when Amma passes and Therese reveals a long-known family secret. Cathy must decide between returning to her life in New York or being a part of her family’s life. “Aji” explores the courage it takes to come home and the bittersweet love that binds families.
