Back Olivia's Ministry Internship in Japan

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to ask for your help. I am thrilled to share with you that I have been accepted into an internship program with Mustard Seed Network in Japan! This incredible opportunity will allow me to serve alongside a dedicated church planting team focused on helping people deepen their relationship with God. It will also be a wonderful learning experience through immersion in a new culture.

I am writing to you because I know that you believe in this kind of ministry that reaches new people. If you’re receiving this letter, it’s because I look up to you as someone who has served community needs in similar ways. Your prayer and financial support will make this internship possible!

Church ministry has always been a huge part of my life. Being born in Mexico City and growing up as a missionary kid gave me a foundation for serving with others. I love meeting new people and making them feel welcome in a church community. I also love to learn, and an internship like this one will help me to grow in confidence as a leader and servant, to learn new skills, and to develop abilities I already have.

I am genuinely humbled by the fact that this — an internship normally reserved for college students — is an opportunity for me. I am so grateful to the application staff at Mustard Seed Network, to my parents for helping me, and to God for bringing all the pieces together!

Mustard Seed Network:

The mission of Mustard Seed Network is to glorify God by making disciples through planting gospel-centered churches in urban Japan. Currently, they are working toward planting 12 gospel-centered churches in Japan’s 12 largest cities by 2025. Since beginning their ministry in 2007, Mustard Seed Network has planted 10 of these 12 churches as of early April 2025. This summer, I have the opportunity to serve at the eighth church plant in Yokohama, Japan’s second-largest city, with a population approaching 3.5 million.

The Internship:

I will be serving at a church in Yokohama Japan during my internship this summer. My internship will consist of three days of training and preparation in Tokyo before being sent to my post in Yokohama to serve the rest of the summer. During my time in Yokohama, I will contribute by organizing and leading outreach programs, teaching and serving children, and assisting at a local church in any capacity needed. I will also get the opprotunity while I am there to help out with media for the church. This could include helping to manage social media platforms, helping with photography, and/or helping to create videos for the church.
