Back Masoumeh’s Vision for Equity at the Global Peace Summit

Hi, my name is Masoumeh Ghavamjoo, and I’m a final-year Bachelor of Health Sciences (Public Health) student at The University of Queensland (UQ). I’ve recently been selected to represent Australia as a delegate at the Global Peace Summit 2025 in Sydney — a gathering of young changemakers from around the world who are committed to equity, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
This opportunity feels incredibly personal.
I arrived in Australia as a refugee from Afghanistan at age 12, after living in Iran. I came with no English, settling with my family in regional Queensland (Toowoomba). My parents never had the chance to finish school — but they carried hope that we could. Through community support, hard work, and scholarships, I’ve been able to pursue my degree and contribute back in every way I can.
At UQ, I am the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences Student Ambassador, mentor students through the Young Achievers Program, co-authored a menstrual health resources for First Nations students, and speak as a youth advocate on equity and culture. These experiences have shaped who I am — and continue to deepen my commitment to public health, justice, and youth-led impact.
Now, this Summit is a chance to carry all of that into a global space. I am happy to share updates or reflections following the experience. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.
