Hi, my name is Jerome, but I go by J D; I live in a small rural community in Nebraska. Most of the people in town are in their late sixties. I was working for myself doing a handyman service, which seemed needed. I was doing well for myself and was always busy. Everyone seemed to need something done, and I enjoyed what I was doing very much. I did this for a little over a year, then one weeknight, I got a call from someone I knew in High School. Who owned a Plumbing Business in town and wanted to see if I was busy the next day cause he could use some help; we set up a time to meet the following day ( i had done plumbing for a company for five years), so I was very knowledgeable with the industry. Well, one thing led to another, and before I knew it, I was working for him full-time. I worked for him for almost two years, and somewhere along the line, I hurt my back don't know how or when. By the time I decided I had needed to get it had looked at, it was close to the end of 2021. So I took a leave of absence from work. Turned it into workers comp. They denied it. I had paid for doctor's visits and an MRI out of my pocket. I Still need more doctor's visits and more MRIs before we know the problem. I haven't worked since the first week in October, and money has gotten very tight; just like everyone else, my wife and I have bills that need to be paid. My wife of 26 years had a very severe stroke at the age of forty-six that was five years ago. She receives disability but not enough to pay all the bills. Now that I can't work because of my back ( i have a pinched nerve that has caused me from the waist down to be numb, not sure where in my back, but I need more doctor visits and MRIs). With the new year's new insurance deductible and out-of-pocket, we don't have the money to move forward, and my back is getting worse every day. Walking and helping my wife is getting more complex every day. I need to move forward, but I can without help. I have never asked for help, so this is very hard for me to do.
