My name is Matt Murray.
The last four years have been some of the most difficult of my life.
I went through a divorce after 20 years of marriage. The hardest part has been losing regular contact with my daughter. That pain has changed me deeply. I’ve taken responsibility for my mistakes, done a lot of reflection, and worked hard to grow into a better man — someone my daughter can one day be proud of.
During this time, I also invested over $80,000 into a business idea that ultimately failed. I was left with significant debt, including tax liabilities and a vehicle lease from my previous corporate role. At different points, I’ve had as little as $4 in my bank account. It’s been humbling.
In July last year, I made a life-changing decision to fully commit to my Catholic faith. I left my corporate job and chose to dedicate my time to serving others. I now volunteer and work alongside charitable organisations such as Vinnies, supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship. Serving others has helped restore my health, my faith, and my sense of purpose.
However, financially, I am still struggling.
I currently have debts exceeding $80,000, including business-related tax debt, vehicle obligations, credit cards, and living expenses. My lease is ending in a few weeks, and securing bond and rent for a new place has become another challenge.
I am studying a Catholic discipleship course focused on leadership and service, which costs $5,500. Completing this course will allow me to continue meaningful charitable work while building a sustainable future.
My goal is not to escape responsibility. I am committed to repaying my debts. What I’m seeking is a small foundation — some breathing room — so I can:
• Secure stable accommodation
• Pay down urgent debts
• Complete my course
• Work part-time in the optical industry
• Continue serving in charitable and faith-based work
Any support, no matter how small, will go directly toward stabilising my situation and helping me rebuild responsibly.
More than anything, I want to create a life of integrity, service, and stability — a life my daughter can be proud of.
If you feel moved to help, I am deeply grateful. If you cannot donate, your prayers, encouragement, and sharing of this page mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
Matt
