I’m currently raising money to meet the ‘charitable donations’ requirement of my fiscal sponsorship with Fractured Atlas. Once I’ve raised a minimum of $1,000, I’ll be eligible to apply for artist and institutional grants (like NYSCA and many more). I have three projects ready to hit the ground running - all we need is a little ka-ching to make them become a reality. Are you able to help a gal out on her journey to make more (good) art?

Fractured Atlas evolved into an arts service organization in 2002, with a new goal of empowering a wider segment of the arts community in a manner that was both scalable and sustainable. What on Earth is fiscal sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship is a contractual relationship between a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a group or individual whose activities fall within the sponsoring organization's mission. This relationship enables the 501(c)(3) to extend certain benefits of being nonprofit to the sponsored group, without the group having to go through filing for nonprofit status by itself. Through fiscal sponsorship, you can leverage some of the benefits of Fractured Atlas’s tax-exempt status to access discounted space, solicit tax-deductible donations, and apply for funding from corporations and foundations.

A LITTLE ABOUT CHINISHA

CHINISHA is an Emmy/award-winning director, producer, writer, performer, and multi-media artist with 20 years of experience in TV, film, and live production. There was a brief stint as an engineering major in her freshman year of college. (She had Mae Jemison dreams of becoming an astronaut – here’s hoping they need filmmakers in space).

She has created work for major media & arts institutions including Netflix, Comedy Central, CNN, Sesame Street, PBS, Firelight, Left/Right, VICE, NPR, Okayplayer, Caveat, Symphony Space, Carnegie Hall, and more. From her sci-com writing on the Vox series The Future of... (Netflix) voiced by Jurnee Smollett, to her work as a producer on programs such as United Shades of America with W Kamau Bell (CNN), Chinisha’s sense of humor, storytelling, and wide range of production experience has landed her on some exciting and worthwhile productions. Her most recent handiwork can be seen as a Segment Director at The Daily Show (Comedy Central).

Chinisha has received three Webby Awards for her work writing and producing the series Black History in Two Minutes (Or So...) with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. She was a fellow in the 2021 Film Independent + CNN Original Docuseries Intensive to develop SOUND & STORY (fka From the Top). She received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Historical Documentary (News & Doc) for her work on the series The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song (PBS). The Sesame Street digital series for which she directed, Sesame Street in Communities: Talking About Race, was also nominated at the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards for Outstanding Non-fiction Program.

Chinisha is a certified Prince super-fam, nerd/geek-girl, and cheerful nihilist with a penchant for witty, sometimes self-deprecating humor. She attended The New School where she received her MA in Media Studies, and a BA in Cinema Studies with a minor in African-American Studies from the CUNY Macaulay Honors College, cum laude. She enjoys doing the NY Times puzzle in pen, but prefers the app on her phone.
